14 August, 2010:
Ubi-Perco from Ubisoft France's forums has confirmed that another entry in the Ahriman Universe is forthcoming.
"Prince of Persia: Next Gen, or 2008 as you call it, is not abandoned. Clearly, the end of the first leaves to understand the existence of a sequel, and I doubt Ubi will disappoint his fans ;-)
Further to numerous requests of the Fans, Ubi Montreal wanted to come back to his first love, to get the better of the trilogy of Sands and the last POP NEXT GEN.
That being said, I think that a sequel to the last POP NEXT GEN is always planned, to answer the fans of this episode, and especially to continue history left outstanding."
Sounds like the game is in the very, very early stages so hopes for release info or debuts in 2011 seems unlikely - maybe we'll get a concept teaser or some art. My guess is fans will have to wait until early 2012 for a solid look.
Thanks to Zapages from NeoGAF for the heads-up.
28 May, 2010:
The Sands of Time film has hit US theaters and Prince of Persia Retro, a port of the 1989 original for iPhones, has been released to the App Store.

Everyone should be encouraged to go see the film, and bring along some friends as well! The early critical reception is lukewarm, but I've seen it myself and I can say it's a lot of fun for fans and general moviegoers alike. Besides, if we don't support it with our ticket dollars, there won't be any more installments to hopefully improve the formula.
Those with iPod touches or iPhones could do worse to grab PoP Retro as well - it's a steal for a buck and still plays well. Check out IGN's review and brace yourself. This sucker hasn't gotten easier over the years.
